2023 New York City Marathon
The New York City Marathon which is also known as the TCS New York City Marathon takes place every year on the first Sunday of November month. It is also one of the biggest marathon events in the world attracting around 50,000 or more marathon runners every year.
The New York City Marathon was established in 1970 and founded by Fred Lebow. The event has never seen a setback except twice, once in 2012 due to Hurricane and in 2020 due to Covid. Each year professionals, amateurs, and even celebrities participate in this prestigious event.
2023 New York City Marathon: A Star-Studded Spectacle with History in the Making
This year for The New York City Marathon will be way different and intriguing as it features the world champions, Olympic champions, and all the athletes who have had the most victories in NCAA history.
This event has seen some unbelievable victories in the past however, as yet no world record has been set since the 80’s. The Marathon Major has a history of thrilling races, although no world record has been set on the course since the 1980s.

Peres Jepchirchir, Kenya:
Peres has been an Olympic champion and is known for her half-marathon record. At the World Half Marathon championships, she got three golds. In 2021, she yet again showed her prowess and won in the New York City marathon event. And later next year, in the Boston Marathon she created history by becoming the only athlete who achieved a triple victory. Now she is all set to return after her injury last year. People are highly anticipating her performance.
2. Letesenbet Gidey, Ethiopia:
She is a world record holder in both the half marathon and the 10,000m. At the World Athletics Championships in the 10,000m, Gidey has also secured gold two silvers, and a bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 2022 she debuted in Velncia in a marathon event and she maintained a good pace showing her great potential in such events.
3. Hellen Obiri, Kenya:
Hellen made her Marathon debut in 2022, she finished sixth. in 2023, Obiri won the Boston Marathon. She has won 2 world championship golds in the 5000m and a silver in the 10000m. An elite athlete with a remarkable track record. After finishing sixth on her marathon debut in 2022, Obiri clinched the 2023 Boston Marathon against a strong field. Her impressive track achievements include two World Championship golds in the 5000m and a silver in the 10,000m in 2022. She is expected to be among the top contenders in New York.
4. Tamirat Tola, Ethiopia:
Tamirat has a previous experience in the New York Marathon. He had finished fourth in 2018 and 2019. He is looking forward to securing a first place in this season. He has secured third place in the 2022 Tokyo Marathon and the 2023 London Marathon. He got a bronze in the Rio 2016 Olympics for 10000 m.
5. Brigid Kosgei, Kenya:
Brigid has the latest win to her credit in the 2021 Tokyo event. She has a world record title to her name with the time of 2:14:04 from the 2019 Chicago Marathon. Brigid is looking forward to securing a Gold in Paris 2024.
6. Edward Cheserek, Kenya:
Edward has made history by becoming a NCAA runner with 17 titles to his name. Though he is a marathon debutant, he is familiar with the New York course, because he has watched his fiance Sharon Lokedi win her debut last year. People are anticipating his performance at the event.
7. Sharon Lokedi, Kenya:
Sharon is a defending champion and wants to retain her title in her second New York race. Lokedi is familiar with the demanding course and holds the 2018, 10000m title with multiple all-american titles. She is also one of the strong contenders at the New York City Marathon Event.
