First reactions from critics and fans about Keanu Reeves’, ‘John Wick 4’
Eric Eisenberg, the CinemaBlend critic, had some opinions about the film’s daunting runtime. But he says that the film is extremely engaging, so it is all worth it with its smart pace. He went on to tweet, ‘I had reservations about John Wick: Chapter 4’s nearly three hour runtime, but the movie earns it. It’s an epic with smart pacing that never lets the action feel exhausting, and the set pieces are phenomenal. Great cast of series newcomers, but Donnie Yen is the MVP. #JohnWick4’
Ian Sandwell who is the editor of Digital Spy also said he liked her film and tweeted, ‘John Wick: Chapter 4 is absolutely HUGE. Yes, it’s long, but its outrageously good set pieces more than make up for it. A slick, brutal and stylish action epic that sees Keanu Reeves push himself further than before, and with moments that’ll have fans talking… #JohnWick4’
Insider’s Eammon Jacobs didn’t quite like the film Perse. He thought it was too long a film, however, he did praise the impressive action sequences and Keanu Reeves. Here’s what he tweeted, ‘So, #JohnWickChapter4. The exhilarating action is perfectly executed, but the story was dumb – then again, we’re all here to watch Keanu Reeves kick ass, and he does it so bloody well. Fans will love one riotous scene in particular. (Hint: Dragon’s breath shotgun.)’
He further tweeted, ‘Unfortunately, I really felt that run time drag – and it all got very messy by the finale. But it’s an utter treat for action fans. PS. Rina Sawayama deserves her own spin-off. She kills it. As does Donnie Yen, because of course he does. #JohnWickChapter4’
Senior entertainment editor of Consequence, Liz Shannon Miller feels otherwise in terms of the movie’s length and says, it earns it by “going that hard.” She tweeted, ‘#JohnWick4‘s three-hour runtime makes so much sense when you’re going *that* hard. The third act alone… just glorious.’
Keanu Reeves’ take on his film ‘John Wick 4’
Reeves spoke about his film and said, “We have expanded the world-building of previous John Wick films, with a lot of fun and unexpected developments and characters. We also have new levels of the John Wick action and new weapons, and muscle cars are back! In this story, Winston is a master of revenge and instrumental in shaping Wick’s only way out of a seemingly impossible situation.”
The actor added, “John doesn’t have many friends left, but he has a brotherhood, steeped in friendship and sacrifice. John, Caine and Shimazu form a triangle: the assassin, Caine, who got out of the game but was forced back in to protect his daughter; and Shimazu, who also has a daughter he must protect. Shimazu will have to pay a price for his allegiance to John”
This action series has been praised strongly for its action and of course the talented bunch of actors and the entire team efforts. Other star cast apart from Keanu Reeves includes Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zazor, Scott Adkins and Rina Sawayama.
Only a small drawback would be the length of this film in particular which is two hours and 49 minutes long — 38 minutes longer than the previous entry’s. But this is just a tiny negligible point to not go to the theatres and enjoy this action flick.
This epic movie releases on 24 March 2023.
