Selena Gomez announces Her Break From Social Media Saying ‘Shes 30 and Too Old For This’
Recently, Selena Gomez surpassed Kylie Jenner to be the most followed woman on Instagram. After this good news came a shocker that Selena has decided to take sometime off social media to take care of her mental health.
Selena Gomez takes a break from social media the same week she surpassed Kylie Jenner on Instagram as the most followed woman
The decision comes after Gomez reacted to a fan-made TikTok video in which it was implied that Hailey Bieber’s TikTok video from January was an obvious yet subtle dig at Gomez. Apparently the model lip-synced to a viral audio sound in the clip ‘I’m not saying she deserved it, but I’m saying God’s timing is always right’ alongside two friends, including Kendall Jenner.
The video was brought to her notice after a month and she had a quick response to this and shut down scope for any further drama. She said, “It’s ok! I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone!
So, during TikTok live on Thursday Selena announced, ‘I’m going to be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly. I’m 30, I’m too old for this. But I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later.” She added, “I’m just gonna take a break from everything,” reassuring her fans that she’s “very happy” and “so blessed.” She continued, “I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world, and I just couldn’t be happier. I’m good, I love the way I am, I don’t care. I’m big, I’m not, I don’t care. I love who I am.”
This TikTok Live clip was shared by her fans on Twitter on Thursday.
The Singer’s relationship with social media has most of the times been complicated. She has taken several breaks from Instagram over the years. Furthermore, in 2019, she revealed that she didn’t have the app anymore on her phone as the comments she got would affect her mentally leaving her depressed.
Gomez in an interview with Vanity Fair explains that, people on social media write very specific and mean comments which are not needed. “People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed. They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”
All this has over the years caused her to have anxiety issues and a challenge to take care of her mental health. She went on to say that, she never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world her high school for the longest time, and she started getting inundated with information that she didn’t want. She had also gone through a hard time in a breakup and didn’t want any feedback. Though there’d be tons of positive comments, her eyes would catch the mean ones, Gomez explained.
Gomez further added that she only has TikTok on her phone as it is the only app that seems less unfriendly. The pop star’s team manages her account and makes sure to filter out any demotivating or harsh comments and shows her only the encouraging ones.
Whatever experiences the singer must have had on social media, she still feels it is a wonderful place to be on and a great way to connect with fans.
